ATCA Announces 2023 Award Winners

The Air Traffic Control Association is proud to announce the winners of our 2023 awards in airspace and air traffic management. Our winners will receive their award at our Awards Lunch on November 2, 2023, during the ATCA Global Conference in Washington, D.C. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

SAFETY

The William A. Parenteau and George W. Kriske Annual Safety Award 

2023 Winner: Jere Hayslett

                

AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL

Clifford P. Burton Memorial Ambassador Award, ATC

2023 Winner:  Jim Slate

 

Earl F. Ward Memorial Team Award for Outstanding Achievement 

Awarded to a group for an outstanding achievement during the previous year, which has added to the quality, safety, or efficiency of air traffic control.

2023 Winner Group:  RVA’s Naples Tower (APF), Fort Myers Tower (FMY), and Punta Gorda Tower (PGD)

 

ATCA Award for Exceptional Service 

Awarded to an individual or team who delivered air traffic control or related services under extraordinary circumstances and/or conditions. recognizes an exceptional commitment to ensuring the provision of ATC services and public safety during an adverse event, without regard to personal safety.

2023 Winner: Yakima Tower Team

 

Andy Pitas Aircraft Save Award

Awarded to an individual or group who provided flight assistance in the previous year that resulted in the safe recovery of an emergency aircraft through the application of exceptional air traffic service.

2023 Winner: Nancy D’Angelo

 

The General E. R. Quesada Memorial Award for Outstanding Civilian ATC Manager of the Year Award

Awarded to an individual for an outstanding achievement or contribution during the previous year as an ATC Manager.

2023 Winner: Jeremy Box

 

ATCA Airway Transportation Systems Specialist of the Year Award 

Awarded to non-military airway facilities technician acting in a non-supervisory capacity who has, during the previous year, performed in an exemplary or extraordinary manner in support of ATC.

2023 Winner: Timothy Lindsey

 

INDUSTRY AND SMALL BUSINESS

The Charles E. Varnell Memorial Annual Outstanding Achievement Award for Small Business  

Presented to a small business concern for outstanding achievement or contribution, which has added to the quality, safety or efficiency of air traffic control.

2023 Winner: Evans Consulting

 

ATCA Annual Outstanding Achievement Award for Small & Disadvantaged Business  

Presented to a small business concern owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals for an exemplary achievement or contribution that has added to the safety, quality, or efficiency of ATC.

2023 Winner:  ATCSI, LLC

 

ATCA Industry Award

This award is presented to an industry or a group of industries for outstanding achievement or contribution, which has added to the quality safety, or efficiency of air traffic control.

2023 Winner: OneSky

 

ATCA Lifecycle Management Award

This award recognizes the individual(s) or group whose design, development, deployment, maintenance, or logistical support had a significant positive impact on the performance or operation of an important ATC system in the previous year.

2023 Winner:  HQ Air Force Flight Standards Agency (HQ AFFSA/XR) Program and Requirements Division

 

MILITARY

Lingiam “Linn” Odems Memorial Award for Military ATC of the Year

Presented to an individual military or civilian air traffic control specialist who has during the previous year performed in an exemplary or extraordinary manner in support of military air traffic control facilities. This will be awarded for each branch of service. 2023 Winner: SSgt Turpening, US Marine Corp

2023 Winner: SrA Van Dyke US Air Force                                                                                                                                     

ATCA Military ATC Technician of the Year

Presented to an individual military or civilian air traffic control specialist who has during the previous year performed in an exemplary or extraordinary manner in support of military air traffic control facilities. This will be awarded for each branch of service.

2023 Winner:  SSgt Biggs, US Marine Corps

ATCA Outstanding Military ATC Manager of the Year

Presented to an individual for an outstanding achievement or contribution during the previous year as an ATC Manager.

2023 Winner:  Capt. Stawick, US Marine Corps
