10:30 – 11:45 a.m. Use of Test Beds to Advance NextGen Research and Demonstrations* Test beds play a critical role in the research, development, testing, and demonstration of NextGen concepts, procedures, and technologies. They provide a mechanism for government, industry, and academia to collaborate on trying out new ways of operating in a realistic environment, evaluating operational impacts and reducing risk prior to implementation. During this session, you will hear about several NextGen facilities, including their capabilities, results from recent noteworthy simulation and demonstration efforts, innovation successes, lessons learned, and plans for upcoming work.
Moderator: · Wes Wright, Federal Aviation Administration

1:30 – 3:00 p.m. Airport Surface Movement: Gate to Threshold* This session will address the current and future state of airport surface operations, and how these operations relate to the FAA, airlines, airport authorities, facility infrastructure providers, and NAS equipment suppliers. The panel members will discuss surface movement, situational awareness, the latest surveillance and communication technologies, environmental impacts, and how these items impact efficient operations and safety within the airport surface environment.
Moderator: · Dave Rhodes, Computer Sciences Corporation

Coordinator: · Dan Courain, ITT Exelis · Joe Salvatore, Federal Aviation Administration · Carleen Genna, Federal Aviation Administration
3:00 – 3:30 p.m. Networking Break Resort’s
Ballroom 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. Automation Convergence* This Panel will consider an 'enterprise' approach to ATC automation, whereby a single automation platform will be utilized for terminal & enroute functionality. In this scenario, the current, stratified automation platforms for the two primary domains are replaced by an enterprise-wide ATC automation platform to achieve the strategic goals of NextGen of greater system capacity and enhanced safety. Issues that may be addressed by this Panel could include the risks of migrating to a single automation platform vs. two; lessons learned from evolving the existing terminal & enroute automation programs/platforms; potential features of a single platform, such as flexibility, scalability, as well as issues such as vulnerability (i.e., to cyber attacks); challenges of evolving from today's environment to a single platform; and more.

9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Exhibit Hall Open
9:45 – 10:30 a.m. Networking Break Resort’s Ballroom
10:30 – 11:45 a.m. Collaboration In a NextGen environment, Collaborative Air Traffic Management (CATM) is expected to provide shared situational awareness and information on constraints in the National Airspace System (NAS) to NAS users. Information across all segments of flight from Flight Planning to Taxi/Takeoff, Cruise, and Descent/Final Approach and Landing would be available to Airline Operation Centers via System Wide Information Management (SWIM) or DataComm. Better situational awareness will enable flight planners to identify alternate routes and collaborate with operators on preferred re-routing alternatives that can better meet airline business rules. Key elements to achieving CATM will include development of alternative trajectory options for flights, maturing of the Flight Data Object, integrating weather into air traffic management.
This panel will include representatives from FAA, industry and the stakeholder/user community to share insights on efforts under way to develop the technologies needed to achieve CATM. Scenarios of how CATM may enable greater efficiency will be explored by the panel members.
Moderator: · Jack Kies, Metron Aviation

Coordinator: · Janice Coates, Hi-Tec Systems · Kathy Lane, Lockheed Martin
12 – 1:30 p.m. Luncheon Buffet Resorts Ballroom and Capriccio Restaurant
1:30 – 2:45 p.m. Operational Aspects of NextGen Architecture* As NextGen capabilities progress towards implementation, the NAS is going to evolve in dynamic and sometimes unpredictable ways. This gradual evolution will take place in many realms: communications, policies, roles and responsibilities, airspace configuration – and at many levels from individual sectors of airspace to entire facilities and future facilities. This panel will focus on what are the enterprise-wide challenges and issues facing the end-users (pilots, controllers, airports authorities, AOC’s, etc.) who will operate the evolving system, including such issues that are not being addressed or possibly not even thought of as of yet. Panelists will also address strategies and methodologies for incremental technology insertion, techniques for maximizing operational performance and acceptance of integrated capability baselines, and approaches for containing/reducing system life-cycle costs.
